What is D2 steel?

D2 is a tool steel, first made for dies and cutting tools in industry. It is high in carbon and carries roughly 11 to 13 percent chromium. That is a lot of chromium for a carbon steel, though not quite enough for it to count as stainless, so a D2 blade still wants drying and a light coat of oil.

D2 or Damascus?

It comes down to what you want to look at. Damascus is two steels layered 288 times, and the pattern is the point. D2 is one steel with a plain satin finish, for anyone who prefers a clean blade. Both are cared for the same way: dry after use, a thin coat of oil, and never stored wet in the sheath.

Which D2 knife should I choose?

The Tracker D2 is the big one: 12 inches overall, a 7 inch blade, a slotted spine, a guard lug cut from the blade steel, full tang and 13.8 oz. The Predator Hunter D2 is a 10 inch hunting knife with a 5 inch blade, the same patented shape as our Damascus Predator Hunter, on a walnut handle.
