What does full tang mean?

The tang is the part of the blade steel that goes into the handle. On a full tang knife it runs the whole length and width of the handle, and you can usually see the steel between the two scales along the spine and the butt. On a partial tang knife the steel stops partway, inside the handle.

Full tang or partial tang?

Neither is simply better. A full tang puts more steel in the handle, so the knife is heavier and the weight sits further back. A partial tang is lighter and is the traditional build for a hunting knife around 10 inches. That is why our full tang knives are the Patriot and the two Trackers, the big working knives, plus the Karambit, where the finger ring is part of the blade steel.
